What should I bring to my initial consultation?
To make the most of your consultation with GastroConnect, please bring the following to your appointment:
Your GP or specialist referral letter
A list of your current medications, including supplements and over-the-counter medications
Results of any relevant recent blood tests or imaging
Your Medicare card and any private health insurance details
If you have been asked to fast for pre-procedure blood tests, specific instructions will be provided at the time of booking.
Fees & Payments
For outpatient consultations, payment is required at the time of your appointment. When your booking is confirmed, our team will provide written details of the consultation fee.
We welcome patients with Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Cards.
For procedures performed during a hospital admission, our practice participates in the “known gap” arrangements offered by many private health insurers. This means that if you have suitable private health cover, there may be a set out-of-pocket amount payable to GastroConnect.
If you do not have private health insurance covering an inpatient procedure, our staff can provide an estimated quote for planned treatments.
Frequently Asked Questions
When should I see a gastroenterologist?
You should consider seeing a gastroenterologist if you have ongoing digestive symptoms such as persistent heartburn, abdominal pain, bloating, chronic diarrhea, constipation, blood in your stool, or unexplained weight loss. If symptoms continue or affect your daily life, a specialist can help identify the cause and recommend the most appropriate treatment.
What conditions does a gastroenterologist treat?
Gastroenterologists diagnose and treat conditions affecting the digestive system, including the oesophagus, stomach, intestines and liver. Common conditions include acid reflux (GORD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, coeliac disease, liver disease and colorectal cancer.
Do I need a referral to see a gastroenterologist?
You will need a valid referral in order to claim Medicare benefits for your appointment. The referral also helps our team assess how urgent your appointment may be. We review referrals carefully so that patients with more urgent concerns can be seen as soon as possible while ensuring all patients are scheduled appropriately. Referrals can be provided by your GP, an emergency department doctor, or another specialist.
