Direct Access Endoscopy
GastroConnect offers a direct access endoscopy service for GPs who wish to refer appropriate patients for colonoscopy or gastroscopy without the need for a prior specialist consultation. This streamlined pathway is designed to reduce waiting times, minimise unnecessary appointments, and ensure patients receive timely procedural care when the clinical indication is clear.
What is Direct Access Endoscopy?
Direct access endoscopy allows GPs to refer patients directly for a colonoscopy or gastroscopy, bypassing the initial specialist consultation. All procedures are performed by Dr Aidan Woodward or Dr Che-yung (Jeff) Chao at Greenslopes Private Hospital, Brisbane, with full procedural and anaesthetic support.
This pathway is well-suited to patients where the indication for endoscopy is established and a pre-procedural specialist review is not clinically necessary. Following the procedure, a detailed report will be sent to the referring GP, and any findings requiring further specialist management will be followed up appropriately.
